The Zilliqa network encountered multiple operational disruptions recently, leading to interruptions in block production on its mainnet. However, as of May 10, the network has regained full functionality, although the exact cause of the outages is still being investigated.
Zilliqa communicated to the community that the mainnet is now back online after facing a "temporary interruption in block production." Infrastructure teams are actively monitoring the network's stability and are engaged in identifying the root cause of the recent outages. Following signs of trouble on May 8, such as a slowdown in block generation, Zilliqa's technical team has remained vigilant for nearly 48 hours to prevent further disruptions.
On May 9, around 9:30 am UTC, the technical team identified a glitch resulting in a null value instead of the expected RLP from a potentially flawed database lookup. To address this, an internal test network was established to replicate the issue and trial potential bug fixes, ensuring solutions were thoroughly tested before deployment on the testnet and mainnet.
By approximately 2:30 pm UTC on May 9, the team had restored full functionality with a fix and introduced the Zilliqa version 9.3.4 network upgrade. This upgrade includes various improvements to EVM compatibility. The team apologized for any inconvenience caused to users and the Zilliqa community during this period.
Despite these efforts, the mainnet experienced further disruptions in block production around 7:05 pm (UTC) on May 9. The team intensified the debugging process to better diagnose the issue and resolve the root cause of the outage. This incident isn't the first time technical issues have disrupted Zilliqa's block production, as a similar outage occurred in December 2023, causing a significant drop in daily transaction volume on the blockchain.
Zilliqa's team continues to investigate the recent network outage and expresses gratitude to the community for its patience and support during the resolution process.
