How Many Americans Own Crypto? Is Crypto Popular In USA?

On major cryptocurrency exchange and wallet Coinbase, the United States has the largest proportion of traders (60%), while on Binance, Bittrex, and Poloniex, US traders account for a sizable 24%, 27%, and 28% of all cryptocurrency traders , respectively. So, how many Americans own crypto?

In 2022, Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum were frequently found in portfolios held by Americans, indicating that cryptocurrencies were becoming more widely accepted (ETH). It may not come as much of a surprise that the top three virtual currencies of 2021 are those have received the most media attention.

How Many Americans Own Crypto?

According to estimates, 27 million Americans, or 8.3% of the entire population, presently own cryptocurrency. Only 10% of American women own cryptocurrency, compared to 19% of American males, who invest in it almost two times more frequently.

57% of Americans, according to a 2018 ING poll, had heard of cryptocurrencies. When compared to the IE CGC poll findings from 2019, more Americans (nearly 70%) are aware of cryptocurrencies. Since 2018, with interest varying greatly by age and income.

When cryptocurrency ownership is broken down by income, the very wealthy have considerably greater ownership rates. Over 70% of the surveyed business owners earn over US$1 million annually, and 33% earn between US$500,000 and US$999,999.

The age group of 18 to 44 accounts for the majority of US cryptocurrency owners (58%). 55 and older make up 5% of them. This leads to the conclusion that young, tech-savvy, and afluent Americans own the majority of cryptocurrencies .

Americans with advanced degrees are more likely to own cryptocurrencies; 17% of them have doctorates or similar degrees, compared to 9% who only have secondary education. Additionally, more American males (16%) than American women (7%) own cryptocurrencies.

Is Crypto Popular In USA?

On major cryptocurrency exchange and wallet Coinbase, the United States has the highest proportion of traders (60%), whereas on Binance, Bittrex, and Poloniex, US traders account for a sizable 24%, 27%, and 28% of all cryptocurrency traders , respectively.

While the remaining 46% of Americans who own cryptocurrencies only own them for investment purposes, 46% of them are already using them to make purchases.
