Paintings and other traditional works of art are precious because they are unique. However, it is simple and limitless to duplicate digital data. In this article, we will help you explain the incidents of stolen NFT, and more.

How Many Stolen NFTs Are There?

According to study, non-fungible tokens worth more than $100 million (£85 million) were stolen in the year leading up to July, with fraudsters pocketing an average of $300,000 per scheme.

Numerous methods have been used by thieves to steal valuable NFTs, which are cryptographic assets that grant possession of distinctive digital objects, frequently works of virtual art.

The most expensive NFT ever taken is CryptoPunk #4324, which was sold for $490,000 by con artists shortly after the heist on November 13, 2021. 16 blue-chip NFTs valued $2.1 million were lost in the largest single on heist from a December single victim 28, 2021.

Assets #9650 and #5759 in the CloneX collection were stolen twice in the span of three months in two separate scam incidents; each time, they were worth about $50,000, underscoring the ongoing problem of scams.

The most prevalent type of scam, phishing, tempts users into unintentionally disclosing the passwords to their cryptocurrency wallets, which a con artist can use to start an irrevocable transaction. That's how they stole NFT.

How Did NFT Get Stolen?

Due to Web3's decentralized design, users can sign up for an account using a cryptocurrency wallet secretly and start minting right away without having to provide any ownership documentation.

"This is infringement because I do not have permission to use another person's artwork and market it as my own. I created the NFT. And that's what's going on here, the lawyer said, according to Built In. "They are illegally stealing someone else's artwork and profiting from it."

It is particularly challenging to resolve this problem because a large portion of this infection is committed by bots, which scrape artists' online galleries and produce collections with automatically produced texts.

An original piece of writing or artwork (including digital artwork) is protected by a copyright, a type of intellectual property, from being used or turned into money without the author's consent. Copyrighting your product can serve as a powerful deterrent to criminals. Or, At the very least, it can serve as a form of evidence that you can use to your advantage if your work is ever misappropriated.

Summary

NFTs are digital links that are encrypted and kept on a specific blockchain, providing a unique, unrepeatable way to identify the owner. Any digital item that has been minted or published on the blockchain qualifies as an NFT. And this is how scammers stole NFT.
