If you've ever played an online game, crypto and you've probably noticed that communication plays an important role, you might need to know how to use discord. If you want to know about that, let's take a look at the article below .

How to use discord?

Discord gives you two options. You can visit its website and use it as an in-browser application, or download it to your desktop or mobile device and use it as a standalone application.

If you want to use it as an in-browser app, open Discord's website and click the "Open Discord in Browser" button. Once logged in, you will be able to browse the server and chat with other Discord users.

To download, click the "Download" button at the top of the website. This will take you to a page with all the platforms that Discord is available on, so you can download the standalone app for the platform you're using. After downloading , use the setup wizard to install the app on your device and log in with your credentials.

How to Talk to Friends on Discord

One of the core features of the Discord app is adding friends and having one-on-one conversations. This is what many users use their Discord accounts for - you don't need a server; you just need your friend's username and ID.

Add Friend

Adding friends is easy. First, you need to know your friend's username and four-digit ID. After launching the Discord app, it will take you directly to the home screen (or you can click the Discord icon above the server list). In the top middle of this screen, there is a green "Add Friend" button. Clicking it will open a prompt asking for your friend's username (case-sensitive) and their four-digit ID, and you can send a friend request.

If you are already on one or more Discord servers, you can add server members as your friends without entering their names. Just go to the message pane or user list, click on their username, then click on their profile picture. You'll see a "Send Friend Request" button on the right - click it and Discord will send the user a friend request for approval.

Direct messages, voice chat and video calls

Direct messages allow you to communicate with other users via text chat instead of voice or video. You can send a direct message to any user by simply clicking on the username and typing your message in the input field. This is an easy and effective way to contact any Discord user you come across on a public server.

You can also start a voice chat with people on your friends list, or you can start them by joining a voice channel in any Discord server you're a member of. Voice chat is the bread and butter of Discord, delivering great quality no matter how many people join a voice channel. You can even customize the volume for each user. If you have admin rights on the server, you can also mute or deafen users channel-wide.

Video calls are also an option, but Discord doesn't prioritize them. The quality is good, but not great, even if you opt for Discord Nitro and the improved video chat resolution. Video chat is certainly something you can do through Discord in a pinch, but we recommend using a dedicated video chat app.

I hope this article will help you to learn how to use discord and how to talk to friends in discord. Discord is an extremely versatile voice and instant messaging platform that lets you connect with friends and meet new like-minded people. That being said, it can be overwhelming if you haven't used it before.
