In this article, you will learn what time does the stock market close on PST. If you are an investor in the stock market, knowing when the market opens and closes is important to know when to place your trades and check your positions. You will always have to take care of the information and time zone of the stock you are investing in.

What Time Does the Stock Market Close on PST?

The stock market is open Monday to Friday from 6:30 am – 1:00 pm Pacific Standard Time.

Many stocks can also be bought and sold in extended-hours trading. Pre-market trading is from 2:00 am to 6:30 am, while after-hours trading is from 01:00 am – 5:00 pm

These stock trading hours are noted in Pacific Standard Time.

In other US time zones, the stock market opens at 8:30 am Central Time, 7:30 am Mountain Time and 9:30 am Eastern Time.

Stock market holidays in 2023

On stock market holidays, the main US stock exchanges (NYSE and Nasdaq) close for the entire day.

These are all the planned stock market holidays in 2023:

New Year's Day: January 2 (Monday -- observed)*

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: January 16 (Monday)

Presidents' Day: February 20 (Monday)

Good Friday: April 7 (Friday)

Memorial Day: May 29 (Monday)

Juneteenth National Independence Day: June 19 (Monday)

Independence Day: July 4 (Tuesday)

Labor Day: September 4 (Monday)

Thanksgiving Day: November 23 (Thursday)

Christmas Day: December 25 (Monday)

In addition, the market will be close at 1:00 pm Eastern Time on July 3 (Monday) and on November 24 (Black Friday).

These holidays are identical for both the NYSE and Nasdaq. However, bond markets may have different holidays and trading hours than stock exchanges.

Futures trading hours

Types of securities called futures contracts can be traded almost around the clock Monday through Friday. For example, futures on the S&P 500 Index (called E-mini S&P 500 futures) can be traded from 6:00 pm on Sunday to 5:00 pm on Friday.

However, there is a break in E-mini futures trading between 4:15 pm and 4:30 pm each day.

Other types of futures contracts may have different trading hours, such as commodity and currency futures.

Option trading hours

Most options contracts on US stock exchanges can only be traded between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm EST, the same as regular trading hours for stocks.

Cryptocurrencies

Most cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) are traded around the clock, all year.

Bottom Line

Some brokers allow you to trade during extended hours, but this is not recommended for beginners. That's because there is less liquidity at this time, and your order may not get filled at a good price. So, it is always good to know what time does the stock market close on PST.
