One of the key factors in the development of modern cryptocurrencies and blockchains is cryptography, the study of creating codes and ciphers for secure communication. But, who invented cryptography?

Let's explore more in this article, "Who Invented Cryptography? A Brief History Of Cryptography."

However, the development of the cryptographic methods utilized today has a remarkably long history. People have used cryptography to send information securely since the dawn of time. The intriguing development of cryptography that led to the sophisticated and cutting-edge technique mod digits employed for detailed below.

A Brief History Of Cryptography

The science or study of methods for secret writing and concealing communications in any medium is known as cryptography. A plaintext or piece of data is converted into a ciphertext by the process of encryption, which prevents malicious outsiders from decoding the content.

The importance of knowledge and, more recently, data has increased, which has driven the development of cryptography. The requirement for secret military communication then had an impact on the earliest known encryption, which had been used to safeguard religious or commercial knowledge. business and private communication brought about the following significant changes. Computers and the internet have progressively taken over our life since the 1980s. Therefore, in the Information Age, every communication—whether it be between people, machines, or is machinest—people .

When was encryption invented, and by whom?

Ancient Egypt is where the oldest written examples of encryption may be found. Nearly 4,000 years ago, the tomb of nobleman Khnumhotep II contained a script recording his deeds in life. However, some unusual hieroglyphs were used that obscured the original meaning of the text. Ancient encryption in Egypt was used mainly to protect knowledge, as education was a privilege limited to the highest circles of society and was also a way to show one's skills in writing. It was also used for religious reasons, for example, to discuss taboos.

The first recorded instance of encryption being used for military purposes dates to around 500 BC. Spartan encryption used an invention called the scytale, which allowed secret messages to be sent and received. The device was wrapped in a small piece of parchment, and the text was inscribed down its entire length. The writing was unreadable after the strip was wound off the cylinder unless the reader had access to a similar cylinder. It was at this point that the concept of a common key—still utilized in modern cryptographic techniques—was applied to both encryption and decryption.

What was the first type of encryption?

The original form of encryption was the substitution cipher, which replaced units (letters or groups of letters) with other units in accordance with a set of substitution rules, such as A=N, B=O, etc. Prior to the invention of computers , cypher keys were kept by the sender and the recipient to maintain the security of encryption. Thus, even if the messenger was captured, the content of the message remained undecipherable.

Hopefully, reading this article, "Who Invented Cryptography? A Brief History Of Cryptography" can help you to understand it better.
