Reuters, one of the largest news agencies in the world, has built a reputation for maintaining independence in its reporting. In this article, we will discuss, "Who Owns Reuters? History of Reuters." Let's get started.

Who Own Reuters? 1851-Current

Paul Reuter founded the company in 1851 in London as a commercial news agency. Roderick Jones and Mark Napier purchased all shares in the company after Herbert de Reuter's death in 1915. Jones and Napier sold the company to the Press Agency. The Thomson Corporation acquired a majority stake in Reuters, renaming the company Thomson-Reuters.

History

Reuters' Telegram Company was founded in 1851 by Paul Julius Reuters in London with the goal of speedily transmitting commercial news by telegraph and carrier pigeons.

The business entered into a groundbreaking agreement with the London Stock Exchange (LSE) to exchange London pricing for information about Paris stock exchange prices.

The London Morning Advertiser was the agency's initial newspaper client, and others soon followed. The business became well-known for its global reach, and it is believed to have been the first European media organization to announce the assassination of American President Abraham in Lincoln 1865.

By the middle of the 20th century, Reuters had become a significant global news organization.
