Aave Companies, a prominent decentralized finance (DeFi) entity, has undergone a significant rebranding, changing its name to Avara. Stani Kulechov, the founder and CEO, explained that the move was prompted by the company's expanding range of products, including Aave, GHO stablecoin, Lens Protocol, and Sonar. To encompass this diverse array, Avara now serves as an umbrella brand, aiming for broader appeal within the Web3 ecosystem.
Kulechov emphasized the industry-wide focus on crafting infrastructure to create products attractive to a wider audience. The rebrand marks a pivotal moment for the company, signifying the dawn of a new era in which blockchain technology becomes more accessible, user-friendly, and engaging, especially for mainstream adoption.
Derived from the Finnish word "Avala," the name 'Avara' reflects multiple meanings such as "broad," "open," "spacious," and "inclusive." Kulechov highlighted its colloquial usage, where 'Avala' signifies "seeing more than what you see." While Aave Labs, operating under Aave, will retain its brand name, it will continue its focus on driving technological advancements in the DeFi space.
Concurrently with the rebrand, Avara announced the acquisition of Los Feliz Engineering (LFE), marking a significant expansion in its product offerings. This acquisition brings the flagship Ethereum wallet, Family Wallet, into Avara’s suite, allowing users to manage cryptocurrencies seamlessly – facilitating sending, receiving, exchanging, and holding digital assets.
Moreover, the acquisition encompasses ConnectKit, a developer library designed by Family Wallet to streamline connections between wallet services and decentralized applications. Benji Taylor, the CEO and founder of LFE, alongside the team, will join Avara. Taylor will take on the role of senior vice president of product and design. Avara aims to leverage LFE's expertise from building the messaging app Honk to further develop the Lens Protocol. This initiative aims to establish a social layer within the broader Web3 ecosystem, fostering decentralized social networking and providing robust developer tools for building communities and applications.
