On November 23, Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the former CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, stepped down from his role on November 21 following a settlement with U.S. authorities. This agreement involved his admission of guilt to a felony charge.
In the aftermath of Zhao's resignation, there was speculation about a restriction on his social media platform activities. Zhao mentioned a potential automated response due to his profile name change from "CZ Binance" to "CZ BNB," humorously suggesting that the detection algorithm might need improvement. There's uncertainty whether Zhao, known for his active presence on the platform, will reduce his posting frequency after stepping down from Binance. Richard Teng, the head of global regional markets at the cryptocurrency exchange, has taken over the leadership position, but with a significantly lower follower count of 231,600 on the platform compared to Zhao's 8.7 million followers.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced a $4.3 billion settlement with Binance on November 21. As part of the civil case filed with the regulator, CZ was required to pay $150 million and admitted guilt to a felony count concerning Binance's inadequate maintenance of an effective anti-money laundering program.
