Bitcoin traded at $77,100 on Monday, August 24, 2026 after recording a 21% gain over the past seven days, according to the CoinDesk Market Data Report. Alternative cryptocurrencies posted weekly increases across listed digital assets, led by XRP rising 46% to $1.50 and Hyperliquid's HYPE token gaining 35% to $80. Ether advanced 28% to $2,442, Solana gained 24% to reach $94, and Dogecoin increased by 30% to $0.09. Binance Coin recorded a 15% weekly increase to $697, while TRON rose 3.4% to $0.344.
This robust momentum in digital asset valuations has temporarily paused as traders assess the broader monetary climate ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's upcoming keynote address at the annual Jackson Hole symposium. Federal Reserve interest rate decisions directly impact borrowing costs and risk-asset valuations, where lower interest rates reduce borrowing costs and higher interest rates increase yields on fixed-income debt. Long-dated Treasury bond yields remain near multi-decade peak levels, while crude oil pricing continues to influence inflation metrics. Consequently, market participants are awaiting monetary policy guidance before establishing new trading positions.
While digital assets held onto their weekly gains, equity markets diverged sharply across Asia, as reflected by the MSCI Asia Pacific Index dropping 1.0%, according to the CoinDesk Global Financial Summary. In Seoul, Samsung Electronics fell 8.7% after announcing a shareholder return plan capped at 110 trillion South Korean won ($80 billion). In Hong Kong, Alibaba Group stock dropped 9.6% following plans to issue 80 billion Hong Kong dollars ($10.2 billion) in shares to finance artificial intelligence expansion. Additionally, SoftBank Group shares fell 4.9% in Tokyo after launching a 1 trillion Japanese yen ($6.7 billion) retail bond issuance.
Alongside traditional equity movements, sovereign debt and commodity markets also reacted to shifting fiscal expectations ahead of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's fiscal consolidation proposal. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield fell by 2 basis points to 4.71%, while government bond yields in Australia and New Zealand also decreased. In commodity markets, Brent crude oil dropped 1.3% to settle at $93.20 per barrel. These yield and commodity movements occurred alongside corporate earnings preparation, as Nvidia reports its financial performance later in the week.
