Hardhat Chad, the enigmatic figure behind the Ore project, recently proposed a solution to the Solana Foundation to potentially address the network's recent congestion issues. This suggestion follows nearly a week of network congestion on Solana, during which transaction failure rates soared to as high as 75%.
In a post on the X social platform, Hardhat Chad recommended that the Solana Foundation consider offering rewards to incentivize testnet activity. He suggested that providing incentives in the form of SOL Tokens could encourage users to actively engage in testing new features or protocols on the Solana network's testnet.
The rationale behind this proposal is to motivate users to participate in testing activities, which could lead to improvements in the platform's performance and the early identification of potential issues before they affect the mainnet. However, the response to Hardhat Chad's suggestion within the community was mixed, with some expressing support and others voicing disagreement.
One user, known as TheSoftwareJedi, disagreed with Hardhat Chad's proposal and instead suggested that he focus on developing his project first and demonstrate goodwill to the foundation. TheSoftwareJedi recommended that Hardhat Chad explore funding opportunities through grants from the foundation while emphasizing the importance of preserving the foundation's autonomy in providing incentives.
Hardhat Chad clarified that his intention was not to seek funding from the foundation for Ore's development. Rather, his primary goal for Ore is to establish a currency, not to create testnet tools. He also raised questions about the prioritization of incentives to combat spam on the testnet, suggesting a reevaluation of this approach.
Amidst these discussions, Hardhat Chad emphasized the critical need for an immediate halt to mining operations for the well-being of the Solana network and Ore stakeholders. He underscored the necessity for an overhaul of the smart contract framework in light of recent network challenges, aligning with Ore's roadmap to develop version 2 (v2) and its commitment to long-term sustainability.
