British cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp has joined the list of companies registered with the country's Financial Conduct Authority.
About six months later, Bitstamp UK Limited and Interactive Brokers Limited became the first firms to join other UK-registered entities, according to the list of FCA-registered crypto-asset firms as of June 13 the FCA added Hidden Road Partners and MoonPay In 2 022 , the FCA lists 42 registered cryptocurrency companies that meet requirements such as anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism. In the UK, firms permitted to "carry on cryptoasset activities" must either register with the FCA or obtain provisional qu alifications to operate. The financial regulator previously ordered Binance Markets Limited to cease its operations in the United Kingdom and issued a "close or face further action" order to local crypto ATM operators.
Ripple, the blockchain-based payments platform, announced in a shareholder call in May that it had taken a minority stake in Bitstamp in the first quarter of 2023. Lawmakers in the UK have been proposing a comprehensive crypto asset regulatory framework aimed at give ing crypto a more prominent role in the country's financial services and promoting an approach that encourages innovation in the space. At the time of publication, the government appears to be gathering responses to the Framework's consultation paper and considering next steps.
