The Celestia mainnet, set to launch on October 31st at 14:00 UTC, marks a significant milestone as the first modular data availability network. Along with this launch, it will introduce its native token, TIA, through an extensive airdrop of 60 million tokens, equivalent to 6% of the circulating supply. The recipients of this substantial airdrop include active users on Ethereum Layer 2, Cosmos Hub, and Osmosis, making it the most substantial airdrop of 2023. The airdrop is based on a snapshot taken on January 1, 2023.
The Block has verified the official launch date and time for the Celestia network, while Celestia's GitHub repository also aligns with this timeline. Prominent exchanges like Binance, KuCoin, and Bybit have announced their plans to initiate trading on the TIA/USDT currency pair following the Celestia (TIA) token's official launch.
Celestia distinguishes itself through its unique approach that focuses exclusively on transaction arrangement and sharing, deviating from the typical networks that also execute transactions. This distinctive feature separates transaction consensus from actual execution.
The core goal of Celestia is to reduce the development costs associated with decentralized applications by revamping blockchain infrastructure. This streamlined framework aims to offer industry innovators a more accessible and cost-effective platform. Following the launch of Celestia, the network anticipates contributions from the community, which may result in additional features and enhancements.
Some of the potential future developments include support for pruning historical blob data to decrease node storage requirements, the introduction of a "partial node" type for light nodes validating Celestia L1 state transitions, and the deployment of Blobstream to the Ethereum mainnet for the Layer 2 utilization of Celestia Stia.
In October 2022, Celestia Labs secured $55 million in a funding round led by Bain Capital Crypto and Polychain Capital, further demonstrating the industry's confidence in its innovative approach.
