Coffeezilla popular YouTuber and “Internet sleuth” covering crypto scams is now accusing mixed martial arts legend Khabib Nurmagomedov of using NFTs to “trick” his followers.
The former UFC lightweight champion said his new series will give fans access to his "private club" while enabling holders to mine bitcoin. Nurmagomedov has partnered with GoMining to launch his NFT collection, and he became an ambassador for GoMining in October 2021. The company aims to provide ordinary consumers with an opportunity center for the bitcoin mining industry by rewarding holders of its GMT tokens and custom NFTs with BTC mined from its data.
According to the project’s website, each NFT will serve as a ticket to private events held by Nurmagomedov “multiple times a year.” It noted that each NFT is backed by 29 terahashes per second of computing power, with an energy efficiency of 35 watts per terahash making it the company’s most profitable NFT.
The 29 TH/s hash rate references Khabib's 29-0 all-time record in the professional MMA field. With 13 victories in the UFC, the former champion eventually retired from the sport, cementing his status as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. However, given that Khabib is returning to NFT trading, Coffeezilla suggests the martial artist is back in the cage:
“If you need money this bad, why not step back in the ring instead of scamming your fans?” he asked.
In December, Coffeezilla accused YouTuber Logan Paul of failing the NFT project, accusing Paul of defrauding his followers. While Paul initially intended to sue Coffee over the allegations, he later withdrew his claim and apologized to his fans. Nurmagomedov's announcement makes him one of many celebrities, athletes and professional boxers using his brand to sell digital collectibles. Ethernity chain launched the NFT series in 2021 on behalf of Anderson Silva - widely regarded as the best middleweight MMA fighter of all time.
UFC has been closely involved in promoting various crypto initiatives, including L1 smart contract platform VeChain and cryptocurrency exchange CryptoCom. Last May, popular UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan suggested that the U.S. government may actually be afraid of Bitcoin.
