The price of Dogwifhat (WIF), a memecoin built on the Solana blockchain, surged by an additional 25%, reaching a new all-time high of $3. This remarkable spike came as enthusiasts of the memecoin raised over $700,000 to fund a campaign promoting the coin's logo on the iconic Las Vegas sphere. Ansem, a prominent crypto trader, shared the news with his 235,000 followers on X, affirming the significant financial backing behind Dogwifhat.
The crowdfunding initiative, named "Sphere Wif Hat," commenced on March 10 and quickly surpassed its initial goal of $50,000, accumulating over $702,000 in USD tokens. Following the successful fundraising effort, WIF experienced a swift surge in its price, catapulting it to an unprecedented value of $3 per token and elevating its total market capitalization to $3 billion, as reported by TradingView.
Despite the surge to new highs, the price of Dogwifhat has since stabilized around $2.88. The campaign has garnered support from various prominent entities within the Solana ecosystem, with the official social media account of the Solana-based Phantom Wallet actively promoting further contributions.
However, there remains a lack of public documentation confirming the acceptance of the campaign by the Las Vegas Circle. Some members of the crypto industry have expressed concerns about the implications of featuring Dogwifhat on the Sphere, suggesting that such endeavors could signal an overheated market.
Ryan Sean Adams, co-host of Bankless, humorously remarked that placing a crypto project on the Sphere would symbolize the pinnacle of the current bull market, implying a subsequent collapse in the asset's price. Nonetheless, Dogwifhat's recent price surge has propelled its market capitalization to $2.8 billion, surpassing other notable memecoins like Bonk (BONK) and Ethereum-based tokens such as Floki Inu (FLOKI).
At present, Dogwifhat ranks as the 51st largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and stands as the fourth largest memecoin according to the CoinGecko memecoin index, trailing behind Pepe, Shiba Inu, and dogecoin. Since its launch in late November of the previous year, WIF has emerged as the most successful meme coin this cycle, boasting an astonishing gain of over 1,000,000%.
