A collaboration of Hollywood and gaming industry stalwarts has birthed Galaxy Entertainment Publishing, a AAA Web3 game publisher headquartered in the United Arab Emirates. This venture is the inaugural subsidiary of the overarching Galaxy Group.
At the forefront of Galaxy Entertainment's endeavors is PlanetQuest, a project that has been actively under development since 2022. Loren Roosendaal, the CEO of Galaxy Entertainment and the brainchild behind PlanetQuest, shared that despite the game's pending launch, it has already amassed a substantial user base. Roosendaal stated, “PlanetQuest Passport holders own over 300,000 connected wallets, with over 200,000 of those wallets holding one or more PlanetQuest NFTs.” The development team for PlanetQuest comprises former personnel from industry giants like Disney, Warner Bros., Activision Blizzard, and Epic. With individual credits ranging from iconic films such as The Batman, The Avengers, and Blade Runner to gaming franchises like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Star Wars: Last Stand, their collective expertise is formidable.
Heading the creative endeavors at Galaxy Entertainment is Jon McCoy, the company's Chief Creative Officer, whose career spans involvement in numerous AAA Hollywood blockbusters. McCoy expressed his enthusiasm for the new venture, noting that while his previous work on Hollywood films was fulfilling, the opportunity to engage directly with fans and craft a unique sci-fi universe at Galaxy Group is unparalleled. He remarked, "I've fulfilled a lot of my childhood dreams, like working on Star Wars, Blade Runner, and Marvel movies to name a few, but there’s nothing better than being able to engage and build with fans from day one."
The flagship offering from Galaxy Entertainment, PlanetQuest, immerses players in a vast "Star Wars-like" universe teeming with digital assets ripe for ownership and trading. Ranging from individual spacecraft to entire planets, these assets can be utilized within the game or traded/sold among players using their national currency. Additionally, Galatic, the parent company, has plans to expand the PlanetQuest universe beyond the gaming realm, with companion media such as novels, comic books, and even another game slated for future release, as reported by VentureBeat.
