However, the task is complicated due to a diverse of funding source. The the it. debtors, which include FTX and its affiliates, estimate that around $8.7 billion of client assets were misappropriated. The majority of these funds, approximately $6.4 billion, were in fiat currencies and stablecoins, which FTX does not distinguish in its accounting practices. The report allegations that the former leadership of FTX deliberately commingled and misused customer deposits, aided by senior lawyers and others associated with FTX Group.
Despite employing experts in forensic accounting, asset tracking, recovery, and blockchain analysis, tracing the debtor's extensive assets to specific sources or differentiating them from FTX Group's operating funds and customer deposits remains highly challenging. The report high lights a chart showing the confusion surrounding the movement of FTX client funds from major deposit accounts, which were facilitated by misrepresenting their purpose and engaging in various deceptive practices with banks. The report also reveals instances of former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried making false statements to the US Congress, with the in involvement of an unidentified senior FTX attorney who reportedly fired a lower-ranking attorney for challenging the company's fraudulent practices.The misappropriated funds were allegedly used for political and charitable donations, as well as investments and acquisitions, including luxury real estate.
FTX senior executives, namely SBF, Gary Wang, Nishad Singh, and Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison, informally estimated that FTX.com has undisclosed fiat currency liabilities to clients due to extensive commingling and misuse of client deposits. Their estimates range from $8.9 billion to $10 billion, slightly higher than the figures provided by FTX debtors.
