In the wake of a subdued 2022 and a lackluster 2023, GameFi ventures are witnessing a resurgence amidst the current bull market surge. A notable development this week involves the move-to-earn protocol StepN, which announced a partnership with Adidas to introduce 1,000 Genesis Edition non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Solana. This collaboration marks the beginning of a year-long alliance between the two entities, promising future releases that blend NFTs with wearable sneakers. Each pair of Genesis Edition NFT sneakers will be priced at 10,000 GMT ($2,200).
StepN, founded by FSL in 2021, presents users with the opportunity to earn rewards by engaging in activities such as walking, jogging, or running. Through the purchase of virtual Sneaker NFTs and the integration of their smartphones, users can accrue GMT tokens as rewards. Notably, GMT tokens feature an inflation mechanism, a supply cap of 6 billion, and currently boast a diluted market cap of $1.2 billion. CEO Shiti Manghani expressed excitement about the partnership, underscoring the potential of collaborations between lifestyle apps and global brands like Adidas to shape the future of lifestyle rewards.
Recently, the move-to-earn protocol also unveiled a $30 reward program, offering one million airdrops to its loyal users. Conversely, other protocols within the GameFi sphere are focusing more on hardware innovations. For instance, Ordz Games made waves earlier this month with the release of BitBoy One, a Web3 handheld gaming device. This device, inspired by the classic Nintendo GameBoy, enables players to earn Bitcoin through retro-style gameplay experiences.
Ordz Games envisions BitBoy One as a bridge to the Bitcoin blockchain, allowing users to engage in a variety of games that will be permanently recorded on the blockchain as serial numbers. From HTML games to on-chain emulators and ROMs, the options for gameplay are diverse, with support for multiplayer campaigns via Bluetooth and WiFi. Additionally, each BitBoy device comes with a one-to-one 3D rendering, viewable on VR devices like Apple Vision Pro, further enhancing the gaming experience. The device was officially unveiled at Paris Blockchain Week, signaling a new frontier in handheld gaming.
Meanwhile, Seraph: In the Darkness, an ARPG developed by Seraph Studio and built on Arbitrum, has garnered significant attention, surpassing 11,000 ETH in sales. Offering a range of in-game NFTs, including heroes, gear, and priority passes, the game immerses players in a Dark Middle Ages setting where customization, combat, and loot acquisition are central themes. With features like the ability to rent in-game NFT devices for rewards and discoverable treasure NFTs, Seraph: In the Darkness is poised to captivate gamers across various platforms upon its launch.
