Gods Unchained, a popular Web3 game, has introduced a novel game format called "Sealed Mode." This format aims to level the playing field by allowing players to compete using semi-random cards they receive at the beginning of a tournament. Unlike traditional digital trading card games, "sealed deck" tournaments are more common in paper collectible trading card games like Magic: The Gathering. This move brings an exciting twist to the digital card game arena.
To participate in Sealed Mode, players must pay an entry fee of 15 Gods Unchained ($GODS) tokens, equivalent to about $2.65 at launch. Upon payment, they receive three randomly chosen gods as the foundation for building their decks. Additionally, participants get 60 random cards drawn from various Gods Unchained decks, including Etherbots, Mortal Judgment, Winter Wanderlands, and more. To ensure a viable deck can be constructed, each card pool has a minimum number of cards of specific types, such as 12 cards costing 3 mana or less.
Players are tasked with creating their decks exclusively from the cards provided; they cannot use cards from their personal collection. The tournament format allows participants to compete until they either lose three games or win seven games. Rewards are distributed based on performance, with players who achieve a better record receiving more significant rewards. Some cosmetic rewards are exclusive to Sealed Mode and can only be earned by players who win four or more games.
Sealed Mode in Gods Unchained draws inspiration from the "Sealed Deck" or "Draft" tournaments seen in physical card games like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, and Magic: The Gathering. However, this format has been relatively rare in the digital card game realm, mainly due to the digital card ownership model. Gods Unchained, however, utilizes non-fungible tokens (NFTs) stored on the Immutable X network to represent each card, allowing for the implementation of innovative formats like Sealed Mode.
Gods Unchained is among the pioneering Web3 video games developed by Immutable, a blockchain technology company. Immutable is actively working on Passport, a wallet app designed to simplify gamers' login processes. Additionally, they recently launched the zkEVM testnet, an initiative aimed at scaling Ethereum for the benefit of video gamers. The introduction of Sealed Mode showcases the game's commitment to fostering a competitive and accessible environment for players.
