Worldcoin, a project that recognizes humans and differentiates them from artificial intelligence, has launched a gas-free crypto wallet for verified humans, according to a May 8 announcement.
The new wallet, called "World App," is available for Android and iOS operating systems. It currently runs on Polygon Network that allows users to hold and transfer USD coins, Dai (DAI), Ether, Worldcoin (WLD) and Wrapped Bitcoin ( WBTC).
The World App uses the project's "World ID" system to distinguish humans from robots. Users who want to take advantage of the gas-free service must first register for World ID by providing a phone number or iris scan. The developers say the project does not store user data. Instead, it generates a zero-knowledge proof that verifies that the user is human, but does not reveal the data used to generate the proof.
Even users without a World ID can still use the app, but they won't be able to enjoy free transactions. The announcement says the app relies on account abstraction to allow third parties to pay for gas. The project has partnered with regulated cryptocurrency exchanges , including Moonpay and Ramp, to provide in-wallet onboarding and offboarding services. Once the tokens are deposited into the wallet, they can be swapped through the built-in Uniswap integration. Users can also connect their phone numbers to the app to send and receive cryptocurrencies with phone contacts.
In a conversation with Cointelegraph, Worldcoin core team member Tiago Sada said the wallet was created to provide an easy option for inexperienced crypto users. “When we first started, we were really just going out with normal wallets, wallets that advanced users like me would use every day, and those turned out to be overkill for normal people. There were so many options, too many things to do, [it's] not very clear," he said. "We're launching [World App] as a product so there's this alternative wallet focused on simplicity." Worldcoin was co-founded by Sam Altman, who also co-founded ChatGPT developer OpenAI.
