Taiwanese music figure Jeffrey Huang, also known as "Big Brother Moji," has decided to drop his defamation lawsuit against cyber detective ZachXBT.
In a joint statement released on August 14, Machi Big Brother expressed that "Zach has contributed significantly to the cryptocurrency community on multiple occasions in the past, and pursuing legal action against him was a last resort but not the right path." The defamation suit had arisen due to a series of revisions made to an article by ZachXBT, which prompted Huang's legal action.
Meanwhile, ZachXBT acknowledged that he "updated my article with additional background from Machi and my own edits," leading to Huang's withdrawal of the lawsuit. ZachXBT expressed some disappointment that legal action was initially pursued but appreciated the ultimate resolution. In June 2022, ZachXBT published an article on Medium alleging that Huang misappropriated funds related to his involvement in past cryptocurrency projects. Huang has consistently denied these allegations, and they have not been substantiated in court. As of the current time, ZachXBT's original claims of embezzlement have been removed.
On June 16, 2023, Huang filed a defamation lawsuit against ZachXBT in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas, stating that "I have always maintained that the allegations in his article are false." In the legal summons, Huang mentioned, "I am legal." Subsequently, ZachXBT sought community donations to cover the legal expenses of the lawsuit. The campaign garnered over $1 million within 24 hours, with notable contributions from figures like Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao and Kraken co-founder Jesse Powell. Zach XBT , renowned for his on-chain research, has had his investigative work cited as evidence in various ongoing legal proceedings and criminal cases.
