South Korean technology firm Naver Corp has introduced CLOVA X, a solution designed for OpenAI ChatGPT, aimed at catering to Korean-speaking users. The company unveiled HyperCLOVA X, an upgraded ultra-large-scale artificial intelligence model, which p owes Naver's range of AI services, including the newly launched CLOVA X chatbot. Developed using supercomputing and data analytics capabilities, HyperCLOVA X incorporates Naver's expertise in the Korean language and culture, making it similar to ChatGPT but optimized for the local context. This c hatbot, like its English counterparts from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic, can engage in conversations, summarize text, and generate stories.
Naver has also introduced CUE, a generative AI search service powered by the HyperCLOVA X model. Naver's CEO, Choi Soo-yeon, mentioned that the company has harnessed its technological experience from diverse sectors such as web search and online shopping to bolster the technical prowess of HyperCLOVA X. The company's commitment to artificial intelligence is evident through its substantial investment of $754 million over five years and its forthcoming data center with 600,000 servers, which will bolster Naver's AI initiatives on a larger scale.
The CLOVA X chatbot is set to undergo beta testing from August 24, while the CUE: Search Tool is scheduled for launch in September. Naver's ambitions in the AI domain extend beyond Korea, with plans to develop localized AI applications for geopolitically sensitive regions like the Middle East and to target non-English-speaking countries such as Japan and Southeast Asia. As the global interest in artificial intelligence grows, companies like Naver and Nvidia are actively capitalizing on the momentum. Nvidia, in particular, exceeded expectations with $1 3.5 billion in second-quarter revenue, showcasing the shift towards accelerated computing and generative AI.
Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of Nvidia, noted that companies worldwide are transitioning from general-purpose computing to accelerated computing and embracing generative artificial intelligence, signifying the evolution of the technological landscape.
