Rap icon and entrepreneur Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., better known as Snoop Dogg, is venturing into Web3 again with a non-fungible token (NFT) project that will allow his fans to follow his life on tour .
In an announcement, the rapper launched the Snoop Dogg Passport Collection, an NFT collection that provides access to various content such as behind-the-scenes videos and photos uploaded by Snoop Dogg while on tour. Holders of NFT passes will also be eligible for future distributions such as artwork and merchandise.
According to the rapper, he has long been "moving things forward" and believes digital goods are part of the future. He also encourages other artists to follow in his footsteps: "I hope other artists will see what I'm doing and continue to innovate on their own," Snoop Dogg said in a statement. The project was developed in partnership with Web3 platform Transient Labs. The company's chief operating officer, Chris Ostoich, said it was always looking for ways to “deliver a unique experience” with blockchain , and the partnership with Snoop Dogg allowed it to do just that. Snoop Dogg has been actively involved in various Web3 projects for some time. In 2021, the rapper identified himself as “Cozomo de' Medici,” an anonymous NFT collector whose wallet w as worth about $17.6 million at the time.
In addition to collecting NFTs, the rapper also showcased the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection through a collaboration with rapper Eminem. The duo released a song and performed it at the MTV Music Awards. On March 6, Snoop Dogg was revealed, along with tech entrepreneur Sam Jones, as the co-founder of Web3-powered live-streaming platform Shiller. The app is designed to combine Web3 technologies with live streaming content.
