The Parrot Protocol, a liquidity network built on Solana, has faced controversy due to a recent proposal put forth by its team. The proposal, set to be voted on by July 27, suggests redeeming its PRT tokens for the value of liquid treasury bonds, with the ultimate goal of transitioning to a tokenless protocol. The redemption price for PRT tokens is fixed at $0.0045 per token. However, the protocol's performance has been lackluster, with a current return on investment (ROI) of -89% on its initial DEX offering (IDO) and initial exchange offering (IEO).
The proposal does not provide a clear explanation for the move, but mentions that many PRT holders desire to redeem their tokens for the treasury bond value. The protocol recently reduced the token lock-up period from 12 months to just seven days, citing increased flexibility for stakeholders to enter or exit their positions. Community members have raised concerns, pointing out that the team behind the protocol holds 81% of the tokens. In response, the Parrot team denied such claims, asserting that the treasury tokens were never accessed or utilized for governance purposes.
According to CryptoRank, the token distribution breakdown includes 35% allocated to protocol incentives, 20% to the team and angel investors, 10% for the public sale, 20% for the seed round, and 15% to others. However, the proposal lacks clarity on what happen ens to unclaimed funds after the eight-week redemption period, leading some community members to express worries that insiders might cash out these funds. The community has voiced their opposition to the proposal, highlighting concerns about the team's misuse of funds without community consent and the premature unlocking of vested tokens for the team and venture capitalists.
The controversy surrounding the Parrot Protocol's proposal has raised questions about transparency and governance within the project. As the voting deadline approaches, the outcome of the proposal remains uncertain, with community members expressing frustration and dissatisfaction with the current situation.
