The Starknet Foundation has unveiled a new grant initiative, allocating $5 million worth of USDC to support burgeoning projects within its network. This seed grant program aims to nurture at least 200 promising teams, offering each recipient $25,000 in USD Coin (USDC) to facilitate the launch of final-stage projects on the Ethereum layer 2 extension known as Starknet. Diego Oliva, CEO of the Starknet Foundation, emphasized that this initiative is designed to address the key challenges faced by developers as they navigate the final stages of project development. He noted the significance of providing support to innovative teams during this critical phase.
The grant program is specifically tailored to projects related to Starknet, requiring applicants to have developed a minimum viable product (MVP) or proof of concept. Oliva outlined the overarching objective of fostering blockchain innovation, aiming to reduce barriers and alleviate the burdens faced by emerging teams embarking on their project journeys. By facilitating easier entry into the blockchain ecosystem, the foundation seeks to encourage a broader spectrum of innovation within the space.
Starknet has been witnessing a surge in developer interest, with the total number of monthly developers surpassing 22,400 in December 2023, a notable increase from 10,500 in December 2020. This growth trend underscores Starknet's appeal as a platform for blockchain development, as highlighted in Electric Capital's 2023 Developer Report. When discussing the most notable projects and protocol categories on Starknet, Oliva underscored the significance of blockchain gaming. He identified key projects such as Realms, Influence, and Dojo, which are leading the charge in fully on-chain gaming experiences. These projects not only cater to gamers but also serve as pivotal tests for Starknet's capabilities and scalability.
According to data from DappRadar, blockchain gaming accounts for 35% of total decentralized application activity, with over 2.2 million unique active wallets engaged daily. This underscores the growing importance of gaming within the decentralized ecosystem and highlights Starknet's pivotal role in driving innovation within this space. As more teams leverage Starknet's infrastructure and standards like Dojo to build immersive gaming experiences, the platform continues to demonstrate its potential as a catalyst for transformative blockchain applications.
