Stablecoin issuer Tether announced on May 31 that it is expanding its operations in the Republic of Georgia with a strategic investment in CityPay.io, a payments processor operating in more than 600 locations in the country. CityPay.io provides payment services to a wide range of customers, including well-known brands such as Wendy's and Radisson Hotels. Through its strategic investment in CityPay.io, Tether intends to enhance Georgia's payments industry by increasing efficiency and convenience.
Georgia has become one of the most favored destinations for cryptocurrency companies, attracting several companies to do business with its advanced regulatory framework. The Georgian government aims to use its competitive advantage to position itself as a prominent global c cryptocurrency hub. Georgia introduces new crypto regulations in 2022. At the time, Georgia's Minister of Economy and Deputy Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili announced the development of a regulatory framework for digital businesses and cryptocurrency transactions.
In March, cryptocurrency exchange Binance established a new blockchain center in Georgia. Dubbed a “Web3 outpost,” the center aims to promote the widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies in the country. Binance plans to attract talent to Georgia's blockchain industry, crea ting more job opportunities and providing industry education.
