Twitter is currently undergoing a rebranding process as it transforms into X, following the announcement by owner Elon Musk. The social media platform, which Musk acquired in 2022, will not only get a new name but also a new logo, look, and feel. X is intended to serve as the new name for the platform itself and will be part of a broader ecosystem that Musk plans to develop.
Users who had originally signed up for the @X Twitter profile received emails from representatives of X, informing them about the platform's takeover of their account names. The emails explained that the @X handle would be affiliated with X Corp and subsequently changed to a new user handle. Users were given the option to choose an unclaimed or inactive user handle and migrate their data to the new profile. While users were not compensated monetarily, they were offered a selection of company merchandise and an exclusive tour of X's headquarters in San Francisco Francisco as a token of appreciation.
It has been reported that the previous owner of the @X username was Gene X. Hwang, but there is no confirmation of any communication from the social media company to that user following the rebranding announcement. As Twitter undergoes this transformation into X, users are anticipating how the platform's new identity will impact their social media experience.
