Twitter has taken the step of suspending the account of the popular memecoin-associated artificial intelligence bot called "Explain This Bob" following Elon Musk's accusation that it was a "scam crypto account." Musk made the claim in a tweet on June 18, and Shortly afterwards, the account was suspended. "Explain This Bob" had amassed a substantial following of over 400,000 users before the suspension. Developed by Prabhu Biswal from India, the bot utilizes OpenAI's GPT-4 model to engage with and respond to users who tag the account.
The project is linked to the ERC-20 memecoin called Bob Token (BOB), which was launched in April. As a result of the suspension, the price of BOB reportedly dropped by more than 30%, according to CoinGecko. Interestingly, Twitter did not take action against the Bob Token account itself. The project's team reacted to the suspension with a touch of humor, sharing a meme depicting Musk spying on a stressed "Bob" in prison. It is speculated that Musk views Explain This Bob as a marketing strategy aimed at manipulating the price of BOB.
In response to the suspension, the hashtag "FREEBOB" has gained traction on Crypto Twitter. Many observers maintain that BOB is not a scam coin and question the validity of the suspension, asserting that the token offering was conducted fairly. They highlight BOB's fully decentralized nature and zero-tax mechanism. Furthermore, it is claimed that the team did not allocate tokens or engage in airdrops to themselves prior to the launch of the Bob token in April. The suspension has sparked discussions and support for the belief that Explain This Bob is unjustly targeted.
