Rumors regarding the resignation of SEC Chairman Gary Gensler are resurfacing, but this time, it seems that artificial intelligence is behind the dissemination of false information. On July 1, an article on the website CryptoAlert claimed that Gensler had submitted his resignation fol low an internal investigation , citing an anonymous official as the source. However, an analysis by Cointelegraph revealed that the article had a high score of 96.8% on the AI detector ZeroGPT, indicating that a significant portion of the text was likely generated by AI.
The website itself appears to be relatively new, with only 17 published posts, the earliest dated June 22. Most of the articles heavily rely on artificial intelligence, as evidenced by ZeroGPT scores around 70% for all the posts. Furthermore, registration records indicate ate that the domain name "thecryptoalert.com" was registered on June 24 at 4:47 PM UTC. Despite these indicators, the story was widely retweeted, and one post by Whalechart garnered 1.4 million views, emphasizing the reach of the false information.
To debunk the rumors, Fox Business Network reporter Charles Gasparino tweeted on July 3 that he had received a response from the SEC confirming that Gary Gensler had not resigned. This is not the first time rumors about Gensler's resignation have circulated. In April, dubious source the s spread the word that he was on the verge of being "fired." These unsubstantiated claims only contribute to the speculative nature surrounding Gensler's position.
In a related development, on June 12, members of the US Congress introduced the "SEC Stabilization Act" to the House of Representatives. One of the bill's key provisions aimed to remove Gensler from his role, referring to him as a "brutal chairman. "This indicates that there has been ongoing scrutiny and criticism of Gensler's performance, further adding to the backdrop against which the false resignation rumors emerged.
