The World Coin App has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 10 million registered users within less than a year since its launch in June 2023. The platform boasts an impressive average of 2 million daily users and over 5 million users monthly. Tiago Sada, the head of product at Tools for Humanity, the parent company of Worldcoin, revealed that the project now garners more daily users compared to January 2024, indicating a steady growth trajectory.
WorldCoin, with its overarching goal of establishing a universal basic income system, operates through its proprietary "World App." This platform requires users to register their identities by undergoing an iris scan via specialized machines referred to as "Orbs." Remco Bloemen, the head of blockchain at the WorldCoin Foundation, emphasized that while World App serves as a primary solution, it's not the sole application within the WorldCoin protocol. He expressed hopes for diversification, encouraging the development of alternative wallet solutions to cater to varying user preferences and needs.
The recent surge in World App usage has spotlighted diverse use cases, notably a heartwarming tale from Kenya. A user from the region expressed gratitude for being able to purchase a goat using funds received from a World Coin airdrop. The story went viral within the crypto community, prompting generous contributions to the individual in cryptocurrency. The recipient reportedly used the donations to acquire additional goats, affectionately naming one of them "Sam," after Worldcoin co-founder Sam Altman.
Sam Altman, a notable figure in both the crypto and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors, serves as the CEO of OpenAI, a prominent AI startup known for its groundbreaking ChatGPT product. Altman's involvement in Worldcoin underscores the intersection of innovative technologies aimed at reshaping socioeconomic paradigms, from cryptocurrency to advanced AI solutions. The heartwarming tale from Kenya exemplifies the tangible impact of crypto projects like Worldcoin in empowering individuals and communities worldwide.
