1. Project Analysis
BAT (Basic Attention Token) is a Javascript creator, Brendan Eich, co-founder of Mozilla and Firefox browsers, which is used to circulate between advertisers and users. A digital asset that solves the problem of ad display and user incentives in the browser.
The project is based on the Brave browser to carry out a decentralized digital advertising business. It protects user privacy through the application of zero-knowledge proofs, and at the same time allows users to pay back their attention. There is a unique concept in Brave browser - attention. Brave uses the ANONIZE algorithm to count user behavior, such as which links are clicked the most, or which website stays the longest. These behaviors can be quantified using the unit of "attention" by embedding the blockchain ledger system in the browser, and the token circulating in this system is BAT (Attention Coin). Simply put, the Brave browser integrated with BAT tokens will maintain a good positive feedback relationship between merchants, website owners and users. When Brave users watch advertisements or high-quality content, they will be rewarded with BAT tokens because they spend their attention; while the website owner successfully attracts users' attention with advertisements and high-quality content, the system will also reward them. The BAT tokens obtained by users and website owners come from the advertising expenses of the merchants.
Second, project application
BAT's solution is based on the decentralization of blockchain technology to achieve a fair and transparent digital advertising exchange. Its first component is the Brave browser, a fast, open source, privacy-focused browser. Brave's own plug-in can block all third-party advertisements and trackers. Users can turn on the "Brave Rewards" function, thereby BAT rewards can be obtained by actively browsing advertisements, and BAT builds a ledger system that can quantify user attention to distribute rewards. In the Brave Rewards model, websites that provide users with content can get rewards (requires BAT registration), and users can also choose to tip the website to reward content authors, and can also get rewards by browsing advertisements. Brave protects user privacy while compensating according to the attention of users (actively viewing advertisements), connecting advertisers, advertisement publishers (website content publishers) and users, eliminating the high cost of middlemen in the existing advertising system, providing The original efficiency and revenue of the three parties of the advertising network.
1. Brave Browser
Brave is a fast, open source, privacy-focused browser with plug-ins loaded by default to block ads, trackers, and malware. Embedded a ledger system that can anonymously quantify user attention to accurately reward content providers.
Figure 1 Brave browser plug-in
As shown in Figure 1, Brave browser installs a plug-in that blocks ads and trackers by default, and users' private data will no longer be used by the website. Obtain. Web browsing will also become faster as users no longer have to download a lot of ads and trackers. Brave claims that its mobile client will load new websites two to eight times faster than Chrome and Safari, and its desktop client is twice as fast as Chrome.
2. Basic Attention Token (BAT)
Attention Token (BAT) is a currency unit for communication between advertisers, content providers and users. Realize a variety of advertising promotion forms and services based on user attention. Tokens are allocated and settled by a quantified user attention system. The user spends energy to watch the advertisement and content is to spend the attention, in this case, the attention represents the time and inner activity that is concentrated on the advertisement. BAT is an ERC20-based token that can be freely circulated around the world through the decentralized Ethereum blockchain platform, and can be exchanged with other currencies in major exchanges.
3. Brave + BAT = efficient digital advertising market
Brave browser can know where users spend their time, and can perfectly calculate and use BAT to reward content providers. This creates a transparent and efficient blockchain advertising platform. Blockchain eliminates middlemen and reduces fraud, and content providers can earn more. While avoiding malicious advertisements, users can receive fewer and more accurate advertisements and get rewards, and advertisers can spend more efficiently without paying for fake traffic.
Figure 2 BAT advertising system
Figure 2 shows how BAT reconstructs the relationship between advertisers, content providers and users and directly protects their interests. The Brave browser monitors user attention in an anonymous way. Attention is only counted when users try to browse advertisements and content in the browser's active tabs. The attention value used to watch an ad will be calculated based on the duration and the amount of pixels. In subsequent system design, a model for each behavior is defined. The advertising system uses local machine learning algorithms, and ads are anonymously matched to user interests, and irrelevant ads are greatly reduced.
Users will be rewarded with BAT tokens when watching ads. BAT can be used to pay for premium content and services within the Brave platform. Content providers will get most of the total advertising revenue, and users can also donate some tokens to support content providers, so content providers can get more income.
4. Privacy Protection
User privacy is protected by the ANONIZE algorithm, and through open source code and the use of secure encryption to reduce ad fraud and achieve better system integrity and transparency.
