The Graph is a decentralized open-source protocol designed to provide indexable and queryable services for blockchain data. Developers can use it to build so-called "subgraphs"—open APIs that define how on-chain data is structured, indexed, and queried, eliminating the need to build complex indexing infrastructure themselves.
The Graph Core Functions
Indexing and Querying: The Graph provides indexing services for various blockchains (including but not limited to Ethereum), enabling applications to quickly access on-chain data through interfaces such as GraphQL.
Role System: The network includes roles such as Indexers, Curators, Delegators, and Consumers. The token GRT is used for incentives, staking, signal labeling, and other system mechanisms.
Ecosystem Expansion: With the development of Web3, The Graph expands to more chains and application scenarios, serving as the infrastructure for decentralized applications (dApps) to access data.
GRT Token Uses and Mechanisms
GRT is the protocol's native token, primarily used for:
Curators using GRT to signal (annotate) subgraphs they deem valuable
Delegators delegating GRT to indexers to earn staking rewards
Consumers paying fees to query or access data provided by subgraphs
Additionally, the protocol sets an initial annual issuance rate of approximately 3%, but this may be adjusted in the future based on governance mechanisms.
