USDC (USD Coin) is a stablecoin that has a constant value of 1 USD per 1 USDC in the crypto market. The value of this stablecoin typically trades around a dollar due to USDC’s underlying backing of real USD currency. As such, it is meant to be stable in value all the time to provide a reliable means of transaction in the crypto market.

With the increased adoption and dominance of the USDC stablecoin, you probably wanted to transfer USDC from Coinbase to MetaMask at one point in time. This guide will provide you with all you need to know about how to transfer USDC from Coinbase to MetaMask.

Can You Transfer USDC from Coinbase to MetaMask?

Yes, you can transfer USDC (USD Coin) from Coinbase to MetaMask since both USDC and MetaMask use the default ETHereum network in their operations. So, you don’t need to add any other networks to your MetaMask account just to send USDC from Coinbase to MetaMask. However, do note that there are other networks in which USDC is compatible with, so be sure that your USDC token is the one that operates on the Ethereum network before sending it to your MetaMask account.

USDC is also compatible with the Polygon and Chronos networks, so if your USDC token is on either the Polygon or Chronos network, you will need to add these networks to your MetaMask wallet account first before starting the transfer process. USDC can also operate in networks not compatible with ETHereum – such as Tron and Solana – which prohibits you from transferring your USDC to MetaMask.

Adding the USDC Token to MetaMask

You need to add the USDC token to the list of assets in your MetaMask wallet account before sending this token to your MetaMask wallet. This will allow you to list the USDC token as your token assets on MetaMask, so you can keep track of your current USDC balance in this wallet. Here are some steps you can follow to do this:

  • First, you need to log into your MetaMask wallet account.

  • Then, you will need to scroll down in the account area where you can see the list of assets you have in your MetaMask wallet.

  • Next, at the bottom of the account area, you can see the link to Refresh list or Import tokens. You will need to click on the ‘Import token’ option to import the USDC token into the list of assets in your MetaMask wallet.

  • On the ‘Search Token’ column, type in ‘USDC’, and click on the USDC token symbol that comes in the search result.

  • Click on ‘Next’ to add USDC to the list of crypto assets you have on MetaMask.

How to Transfer USDC from Coinbase to MetaMask

Now, you are ready to transfer your USDC from Coinbase to MetaMask. However, before you proceed with the transaction, another thing that you need to do is to copy the receiving address for your USDC token in your MetaMask wallet. To do this, you can follow these steps:

  • Click on the USDC token on the list of assets you can find on MetaMask, which is at the bottom area of your account page.

  • After clicking the USDC token, you can see the amount of USDC assets you have on MetaMask, along with the option to Send and Swap the USDC token you have in your MetaMask wallet.

  • You will need to click on the three dots on the right side of your Account 1 / USDC header and then click on Account Details.

  • You will see the QR code of the receiving address for your USDC token on MetaMask, which you can scan or copy and paste into the receiving wallet information on Coinbase.

You’ve got the receiving address for your USDC token in your MetaMask wallet account. Now, it’s time for you to go to your Coinbase account and start the transfer process. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Log into your Coinbase account and navigate to your account information page.

  • Choose ‘Pay’ and then choose ‘Send’.

  • Select USDC (USD Coin) as the asset you would like to send and then enter the amount of USDC you would like to send to MetaMask.

  • Pick ‘Cryptocurrency’ as the asset you would like to send to MetaMask.

  • Next, click on the ‘Continue’ button to review your transaction.

  • You will need to enter the USDC receiving address which you have got in the previous step. You can paste the receiving address to the required column, or you can just scan the QR code of the receiving address if you are using the Coinbase app on your phone.

  • Then, you can choose ‘Preview Send’ to check all the details of the transaction before you confirm it.

  • Next, you just need to follow the remaining instructions on Coinbase and confirm the transaction.

  • Congratulations! You have transferred USDC from Coinbase to MetaMask.

How Long Will The Transfer Take?

Most cryptocurrency transfers will take up to 15 minutes to get processed, so you will get your USDC token in your MetaMask wallet account in around 15 minutes. The reason is that the blockchain network is the one that will fulfill your transfer request, and this can take some time to complete depending on the number of queued transfers in the blockchain. So, don’t worry if you don’t see your USDC token right away in your MetaMask account.

It’s also important to note that because the USDC transfer will get processed in the blockchain network, you will need to pay the network fee or the miner’s fee to complete the transaction process. Just keep in mind about this additional fee, and make sure that the amount of USDC assets you have can cover the network fee or the miner’s fee for the transfer process.

Conclusion

You have learned about how to transfer USDC from Coinbase to MetaMask. It’s quite easy to do, as this token uses the same ETHereum network as the MetaMask wallet, meaning that you don’t need to do any additional steps to transfer this token to your MetaMask wallet account. Be sure to follow the steps explained in this guide to avoid any issues in your transfer process. Happy transacting!
