If you are wondering about WhatsApp and crypto, this article is for you. Toady we will talk about whether WhatsApp has cryptocurrency or not and Meta’s WhatsApp to Trial Novi Digital Wallet. Let’s find out by reading the article below.
Does WhatsApp have cryptocurrency?
WhatsApp has rolled out cryptocurrency payments for a small number of users in the United States, thanks to the integration of Novi, the digital wallet owned by Facebook (now Meta). The pilot program allows users of the encrypted messaging app to send and receive money “instantly, securely and for free” using the dollar-pegged Paxos Dollar (USPD) stablecoin.
Payment methods in WhatsApp are similar to sending regular attachments in conversations. The user clicks the plus (+) icon and selects Payments from the menu that appears. Users who pay in this way will receive USDP, which can be withdrawn to a bank account in USD equivalent.
Meta’s WhatsApp to Trial Novi Digital Wallet
Meta, formerly Facebook, is rolling out a limited trial of its Novi digital wallet within its WhatsApp messaging platform, the social media group said on Wednesday.
Novi head Stephane Kasriel announced the move on Twitter, revealing that some people will be able to transact using the USDP (formerly Paxos Standard) stablecoin. This follows the launch of the USDP and Novi wallets on the heels of the US-Guatemala remittance pilot launched in October 2021. The announcement of the new pilot comes a day after Paxos CEO Charles Cascarilla told a group of lawmakers that he could not comment on Novi's ongoing pilot program following the announcement of the Guatemalan pilot. Paxos declined to comment.
The social media giant formerly Facebook faced massive regulatory backlash over its digital currency plans, leading it to rebrand and scale back its original stablecoin vision, from Libra to Diem. It also rebranded its digital wallet subsidiary from Calibra to Novi.
