Twitter recently announced a new feature that lets users show their NFTs as a hexagonal profile photo on the social media platform. So, let's learn how to set NFTs as profile picture (Twitter).
Limitations of the New Feature on Twitter
However, only Twitter Blue subscribers currently have access to this feature. If you're not aware, Twitter Blue is a feature that allows users access to the service's premium content, which includes NFT profile pictures.
Despite the fact that the NFT profile picture option is only presently accessible to Twitter iOS users in a select few countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, where a Twitter Blue subscription is offered, the NFT community has gone crazy over It due to its buzz. Many Twitter Blue subscribers already use their NFTs as their profile pictures, while those who cannot access it just use images of NFTs to accomplish their goals.
You must first sign up for Twitter Blue and use it on an iOS device (iPhone/iPad) in order to create an NFT profile picture on Twitter. After that is complete, temporarily connecting your wallet with Twitter will allow you to upload your NFT as your profile image.
Before choosing your NFT profile picture on Twitter, you should be aware of the following:
- Currently, Twitter only supports static JPEG and PNG NFTs minted on the Ethereum blockchain such as ERC-721 AND ERC-1155 tokens
- You can only use the following wallets to connect your profile and verify your NFTs for now.
- Trust Wallet
- MetaMask
- Coinbase Wallet
- Ledger Live
-Argent
-Rainbow
How To Set NFT as Profile Picture (Twitter)
Once you have met the prerequisites, follow the steps below to set up an NFT profile picture on Twitter.
- Confirm that the NFT you will be using as the profile picture is present in your wallet
- Open a Twitter Blue account on iOS device
- Go to Settings and tap “Edit Profile”
- Tap the Camera icon
- You will see two options – Upload Photo or Choose NFT. Tap “Choose NFT”
- A page asking you to connect your wallet will open. Tap “Connect my Wallet”
- Once the wallet is connected, Twitter will generate a verification request message to the given wallet address, asking users to complete a signing request with their Twitter handle
- Once done, choose the NFT from your wallet that you want to set as a profile picture
- Then click "Done." As of right now, this NFT will be shown on Twitter as your profile picture inside of a hexagonal frame.
Tap your profile picture and select "View NFT Details" to view your NFT details. The NFT's creator, owner, collection, properties, and much more will be available for you to view.
Do You Have To Own An NFT To Use It As A Profile Picture?
You can still use an NFT as your profile picture even if you don't own one. You could, for instance, take a screenshot of an NFT and then use it as your profile picture.
It may appear "cool" on social media to screenshot an NFT and use it as if you own it to show that you are keeping up with the latest trend.
However, if someone calls you out for using an NFT as your profile picture that you don't actually own, you risk being accused of being a fraud.
Generally, it's considered bad manners to use an NFT image as your profile picture that you don't actually own. For most enthusiasts, the whole point is that you have ownership of the NFT you're using as your avatar.
