ERC-20 tokens are a critical part of transacting on EVM-compatible blockchains and Layer 2. Today we will discuss about whether Polygon is an ERC20 or not and what type of token is Polygon. Let's find out by reading the article below.

Is Polygon an ERC-20?

MATIC is an ERC-20 token, which means it is compatible with other Ethereum-based digital currencies. MATIC is used to manage and secure the Polygon network and pay for network transactions.

What type of token is Polygon?

Polygon, formerly known as Matic Network, is a scaling solution designed to provide multiple tools to increase speed and reduce the cost and complexity of transactions on blockchain networks.

At the center of Polygon's vision is Ethereum, a platform with a collection of decentralized applications where you can join virtual worlds, play games, buy art, and engage in a range of financial services. However, the high volume of activity on its blockchain has made Ethereum nearly unusable, as transmission costs are rising and traffic is becoming congested. Input polygons. In short, Polygon refers to itself as a layer 2 network, which means it acts as an additional layer to Ethereum and does not attempt to alter the original blockchain layer. Like its geometric namesake, Polygon has many sides, shapes and uses, and promises a simpler framework for building interconnected webs.

Rules that ERC-20 Tokens need to follow

The ERC-20 token standard defines the following token development functions:

- Tokens must be transferable from one address to another.

- It should reflect the current coin balance of the wallet.

- It should reflect the total supply of tokens available on the blockchain.

- It should be able to approve whether a third party can use a specific amount of tokens from a wallet by designing preset rules that smart contracts run.

- Allows the automatic transfer of tokens from one address to another when needed.

- The sender will return a certain amount of tokens to the owner in the form of a stipend.

I hope this article will help you to learn whether Polygon is an ERC20 or not and what type of token is polygon. To create ERC-20 tokens on Polygon, you need to use the Polygon bridge. The bridge's smart contracts hold your ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum and create wrapped versions of your asset tokens on Polygon.
