With the new generation of athletes coming through, new priorities and trends are being put higher up the agenda. NFL footballer Kayvon Thibodeaux is one of the most recent to demonstrate that with his newly-launched cryptocurrency supporting underprivileged youth.

What is JREAM ($JREAM)?

Kayvon Thibodeaux has recently been drafted by the National Football League’s (NFL) New York Giants, and like a lot of those in sports he has decided to venture into cryptocurrency. Unusually, Thibodeaux has put a humanitarian cause at the forefront of his fan token.

The footballer graduated from the University of Oregon in 2021 and had a successful college career. This led to him to the Giants as an outside linebacker. But Kayvon describes himself as being more than athlete and wanting to make a “difference in the world”.

In September 2021, he launched a fan cryptocurrency under the name JREAM ($JREAM), which referenced his foundation supporting young people from underprivileged backgrounds.

Investors of $JREAM coin would be supporting this foundation and in return would gain access to exclusive content from Thibodeaux. He tweeted: “This is not an investment. Consider it a membership into exclusive community where you will have access to me as a fan or supporter.”

What makes JREAM unique?

The JREAM cryptocurrency is the fan token created by Kayvon Thibodeaux. Holders gain access to exclusive merch, groups, as well as meet and greets. Furthermore, 20% of the total supply goes towards the JREAM Foundation, a platform supporting youth from underprivileged backgrounds.

How does JREAM work?

Thibodeaux has previously experimented with the crypto industry before. In July 2021, he partnered up with the co-founder of Nike Phil Knight and shoe designer Tinker Hatfield to design a non-fungible token (NFT).

When talking to ESPN, he said: “I feel like crypto is such a new space and having an athlete involve[d] in it kind of changes the dynamic of how athletes are viewed. I started looking at crypto in high school and seeing the future in crypto and how far it can go – this was the next step in starting my future.”

The linebacker chose to build his cryptocurrency on Rally, a platform designed for creatives. Rally was built to enable crypto beginners to create and invest without in-depth knowledge. It promises a secure infrastructure that can be integrated into apps across the web, providing the possibility of clear utility.

What is JREAM coin used for?

Some of the most successful cryptocurrency projects have been driven by a community, whether that’s DOGE or Bored Ape Yacht Club. $JREAM coin is hoping to do the same, giving Thibodeaux’s fans access to an exclusive group along with merch and other benefits.

Holders of a certain amount of JREAM can join Thibodeaux’s Discord community. He wrote on his Rally.io page: “I will drop in content that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. I will pop in to chat from time-to-time.”

Previously, Thibodeaux has randomly selected holders to play chess with on a weekly basis. He has also released limited edition merch under the name “game of life”, exclusively for his Discord members.

What is $Jream worth?

While there has been clear rewards, investors have proved reluctant to embrace the token. It launched on Rally at $0.345 on 24 September 2021. The JREAM cryptocurrency climbed to a peak of $0.609 on 10 November, a few days after the “game of life” merch announcement.

But it has since been on a long-term bearish trend. At the time of writing, on 5 May 2022, it is sitting at $0.143.

Despite the depreciation, users can still earn from the token through weekly rewards that are supplied by Rally to active communities. For every hour of that week, you are accumulating credit and the amount can vary if you purchase more coins, sell some coins, etc. At the end of the week, that accumulated amount is then totalled up and distributed among coin holders,” states Rally.

Thibodeaux is sending his weekly rewards to the JREAM Foundation, along with 20% of the total supply. According to Rally, the current total weekly rewards for this coin is estimated at $2,870.

The JREAM Foundation

Thibodeaux established the JREAM Foundation in 2020. In his bio on the foundation’s website, he is described as being raised “in the face of adversity” and is someone who understands the significance of education to build opportunities. It states: “He feels that it’s his obligation to provide experiences that are difficult to attain as being someone who is underprivileged.”

JREAM is an acronym for “Journey to Readiness in Enrichment and Academic Mentorship”. The foundation is a platform to support and prepare the next generation of economically disadvantaged youth.

It does this in three ways. The foundation empowers people by providing education and “life skills”. It also paves the way for more career opportunities by helping explore all the options and supporting with the necessary preparation work. Finally, it is training and partnering with community leaders to “connect with youth in new ways”.

JREAM token review

At its core, JREAM ($JREAM) is built for fans of Thibodeaux. Users can gain access to exclusive groups, merch and meeting opportunities. The token’s other main utility is to support the charitable work being done at the JREAM Foundation.

JREAM’s depreciating price and desciption by its founder as “not an investment”, makes it an unlikely cryptocurrency to see mass profits. But for fans of the athlete, JREAM still might be worth it.
