The official money of French Polynesia and the other French protectorates is the CFP franc (XPF). The Central Pacific Franc, or CFP, is also referred to as the "franc Pacifique." In this article, we will talk in depth about CFP, Especially how to convert CFP to USD.

What Does CFP Currency Stand For?

Four French foreign island collectivities—French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis, and Futuna—all use the CFP franc (XPF) as its official unit of exchange. The currency, which is divisible into 100 centimes, was adopted in 1945 to shield the colonies from the French franc's post-Second World War devaluation. The CPF franc's ISO currency code, XPF, is linked to the euro. As a result, when measured against the US Dollar, the XPF swings (USD).

Due to its use in the Pacific Ocean territory known as French Polynesia, the CFP, which stands for Central Pacific Franc, is also referred to as the "franc Pacifique." Bills are issued in denominations of 500, 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000, and coins are issued in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100. The currency code for XPF is F.

The CFP franc initially had a fixed exchange rate with the US dollar (USD), which was important for the post-World War II economies of the French Pacific colonies. The CFP franc underwent a transition in 1949 to a fixed exchange rate with the French franc (F).

One of the two currencies France developed after the Second World War to counteract the French franc's depreciation was the CFP franc. The West African CFA franc was the other currency that was issued at this period (XOF). The West African CFA franc and the West African Economic and Monetary Union, which consists of Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Sénégal, and Togo, are presently governed by the Central Bank of West African States, which is based in Dakar, Senegal.

France and other countries ratified the Bretton Woods Agreement during the Second World War's economic turbulence. The Agreement compelled numerous currencies, particularly the French franc, to devalue. The agreement also established a peg between the French franc and the dollar. The C West A XOF) and the Polynesian CFP Franc were created by France as two new independent currencies to protect the French colonies from the effects of the enormous devaluation (XPF).

A currency union is a part of the CFP. When two or more nations or economies share a currency, this is known as a currency union. The Eurozone is the largest and most well-known of these alliances. A currency union differs from a full -fledged economic and monetary union in that although countries may have a common currency, further integration between them is not always required.
