If you've spent enough time in certain corners of the internet, you've come across creative investment phrases. One good example is diamond hands so what does it mean by diamond hands and how it was started. Let’s find out by reading the article below.

What does it mean by diamond hands?

"Diamond hand" is an expression that signifies a high risk tolerance. Investors frequently use it on Reddit, Twitter and other social media sites. If you own a diamond lot, it means you are the type of investor who doesn't panic and sell your holdings when the price fluctuates wildly.

The opposite of diamond hands is "paper hands," a term used to describe investors who sell at the first sign of trouble.

There are different interpretations as to what exactly it means to have a diamond hand. Some people say you need to hold your investment for the long term, even if the price goes up and you can sell for a profit, but most people just think it stays strong in a downturn. Under the latter definition, if your investment is large and you want to sell, then your diamond hand status is safe.

How did it start?

It is believed that the term "diamond hand" was first used on Reddit, specifically the WallStreetBets subreddit. The community is known for two things — peddling high-risk, high-reward investments and a love of memes. It has become popular in many expressions in the investment world, including "tendies" (investment income) and "stonks" (stocks).

Why Diamond Hands? One explanation is that stress produces diamonds, so if you stay strong in the face of stress, your investment will increase in value. Another is that diamonds are notoriously hard, so diamond hands will continue to hold their investment no matter what. Or, the creator of the term may have just thought of it on a whim.

WallStreetBets started using the expression "Diamond Hand" in 2018 or earlier. It really started to catch on during the 2021 Gamestop buying frenzy.

Are there more diamond hands?

Well, other than a literal explanation of why it's called a diamond hand - because they hold on until the stock becomes valuable, like a diamond - there's not much else to say.

Diamonds represent the indomitable strength of investors holding volatile assets. Although, the negative definition could refer to the same investor's intransigence in not giving up on an asset when its value falls.

I hope this article will help you to learn what does it mean by diamond hands and how it was started. The use of diamond hands is still mainly limited to digital asset users. However, with the rise of the meme stock movement, it started to find its way into mainstream financial vernacular
