In today's society, it's hard to blame most people for being anxious at the mere use of the word "hacker." There are those hackers, though, who are helpful to everyone. These hackers are referred to be White Hat or Ethical hackers. White Hat hackers are experts in computer security who focus on penetration testing and other sorts of testing to ensure the safety of an organization's information systems.
White Hat or Ethical Hackers
White Hat hackers, as was said in the introduction, are the nice ones. They are experts in information systems security that run a number of tests on an organization's systems to detect inefficiencies and weaknesses.
This is done so that an organisation may be proactive and fix such information system flaws before black hat hackers have an opportunity to exploit them.
White Hat hackers test the systems using a variety of methods, including penetration testing. Penetration testing simply involves a White Hat hacker breaking into an organization's systems using methods developed by the bad guys to see which methods are effective in getting through. By doing this, they can discover the system's weaknesses and make suggestions for how to fix them in order to stop an actual attack.
It is also fair to point out that White Hat hackers may start out as Black Hat hackers but, as a result of their extensive knowledge, begin working as consultants or employees of organisations to protect the systems of those companies.
Why do we Need Them?
You will end up meeting a White Hat or Ethical Hacker if your business takes the security of its information systems seriously and decides to hire a security firm to make sure everything is running at peak performance. Their responsibility is to perform what is known as penetration testing to discover the weaknesses and vulnerabilities in your system before the bad guys do. Then, he or she will make suggestions for how to fix and secure the system, significantly reducing the risk of a hack.
As you can see, White Hat or ethical hackers are a very valuable resource for all of us and play a very key role in the security of a company's information systems. They are here to help in setting up defences against the malicious activities that are growing in today's technology environment and are experts in what they do. It would be good to have your company's systems checked right soon, if you haven't already, before the Black Hats show up and ruin everything.
