ERC-20z is a fresh innovation in the world of blockchain, introducing a new way for NFTs to gain liquidity and accessibility. Developed by Zora, ERC-20z enables NFTs to be traded like traditional ERC-20 tokens, addressing a longstanding challenge: the lack of liquidity in NFTs after the initial minting stage. This new token standard could reshape NFT trading by making it easier to exchange, trade, and provide fair creator compensation through on-chain royalties.

How Does ERC-20z Make NFTs Tradable Like ERC-20 Tokens?

The ERC-20z standard allows NFTs to be wrapped, converting them into ERC-20z tokens that can be traded on popular decentralized exchanges (DEXs) like Uniswap. Through wrapping, NFT holders can instantly participate in DEX markets, bridging the gap between traditional ERC -20 liquidity pools and NFT assets. If the owner wishes to return the token to its original NFT form, they simply unwrap it.

What Role Does Liquidity Play in ERC-20z?

A unique feature of ERC-20z is its automatic contribution to liquidity pools. A portion of the minting fees is directed to a Uniswap liquidity pool, ensuring there are always funds available for continuous trading. This built-in liquidity mechanism means users can buy, sell, or trade the wrapped NFT tokens without the scarcity often seen in traditional NFT marketplaces.

How Does ERC-20z Handle Royalty Payments?

Another highlight of ERC-20z is the provision for royalty payments. The standard includes an on-chain royalty system that automatically directs a portion of each transaction fee back to the original creators. This feature ensures ongoing creator compensation and supports artists and creators by giving them a stake in the continued success of their work.

How Could ERC-20z Impact the NFT Market?

ERC-20z's design tackles some of the core challenges in NFT trading: limited liquidity, royalty issues, and accessibility. By making NFTs more like fungible tokens, ERC-20z has the potential to open new revenue streams for creators and simplify NFT trading for collectors, enhancing both liquidity and accessibility.
