What is Immunefi? Immunefi is the largest bug bounty and security coordination platform in the Web3 ecosystem, built to protect decentralized protocols from catastrophic exploits. By connecting ethical hackers with blockchain projects, Immunefi helps identify vulnerabilities before they can be weaponized, making it a critical layer of defense for DeFi and on-chain infrastructure.

What Is Immunefi and How Does the Platform Work?

Immunefi allows crypto projects to launch structured bug bounty programs with predefined reward tiers. White-hat researchers review smart contracts, protocols, and applications, then responsibly disclose issues through the platform. In return, they earn bounties based on the severity and potential financial impact of the vulnerability.

How Much Value Does Immunefi Protect?

As of early 2026, Immunefi safeguards more than 190 billion dollars in on-chain assets across hundreds of protocols. The platform has paid out over 116 million dollars in bounties and is credited with preventing tens of billions in potential losses, including some of the largest bug bounty payouts in software history.

What Is the IMU Token and Why Does It Matter?

The IMU token is Immunefi’s native utility and governance asset, scheduled to launch in January 2026. It enables community governance through the Immunefi DAO, allows security researchers to stake for reputation, and gives projects access to advanced security services. Its inclusion on Coinbase’s listing roadmap has further elevated interest.

How Is Immunefi Expanding Beyond Bug Bounties?

Immunefi now offers a full security operations stack, including AI-powered monitoring tools, real-time threat detection, and multisig transaction reviews. These services help protocols respond to attacks quickly and prevent costly internal errors.

Conclusion

What is Immunefi’s role in crypto today? It is the backbone of Web3 security. As exploits grow more sophisticated, Immunefi’s combination of incentives, tooling, and decentralized governance is becoming essential infrastructure for the entire industry.
