In this article, you will learn what is Kovan faucet. Kovan Testnet is a testing environment designed to help developers experiment with decentralized applications (dApps) without having to use real ETH or interact with mainnet Optimism or Ethereum. Kovan Testnet is deployed on the Ethereum and Optimism L2 networks and uses the main same technology as the network, but with a few key differences.

What is Kovan Faucet?

The Kovan faucet is a service that provides free Ether (ETH) tokens to developers and users who want to test or interact with the Kovan network, a testnet for the Ethereum blockchain. The Kovan network allows developers to test and deploy smart contracts and other decentralized applications (dApps) without spending real money or risking the security of the main Ethereum network.

To use the Kovan faucet, users need to have a Kovan testnet address and a social media account that is registered with the faucet service. The faucet will then send a small amount of free ETH to the user's Kovan address, which can be used to test and interact with smart contracts and dApps on the Kovan network.

The Kovan faucet is a valuable resource for developers and users who want to experiment with the Ethereum blockchain without incurring any real costs or risks. It allows developers to test their code and dApps in a safe and controlled environment, and can help to promote the growth and innovation of the Ethereum ecosystem.

How to Add Kovan Testnet to MetaMask?

To add the Kovan testnet to Metamask, follow these steps:

Open your Metamask wallet and click on the network selection dropdown at the top of the page (it should say "Main Ethereum Network" or a different network you may have selected previously).

Scroll down to the bottom of the dropdown menu and select "Custom RPC".

In the "New Network" section, enter the following details:

Network Name: Kovan

New RPC URL: https://kovan.infura.io/v3/{YOUR_INFURA_PROJECT_ID} (Replace {YOUR_INFURA_PROJECT_ID} with your Infura project ID. If you don't have an Infura project ID, you can create one by signing up on their website)

Chain ID: 42

Symbol: KETH

Block Explorer URL: https://kovan.etherscan.io/

Click on "Save" and your Kovan testnet network should now be added to your Metamask wallet.

Once you have added the Kovan testnet to Metamask, you can select it from the network dropdown and start using it to test your smart contracts and dApps on the Kovan network. Note that any ETH or tokens you receive on the Kovan network will not have any real-world value and cannot be transferred to the main Ethereum network or exchanged for real money.

Bottom Line

Adding Kovan to MetaMask is a great way to get started with Ethereum and Optimism dApp development without having to commit any real ETH. This article is about what is Kovan faucet.
