What Is Manifold? How Is It Decentralizing the Future of AI?

Manifold is building the backbone for decentralized artificial intelligence. As part of the Bittensor ecosystem, this Web3-native AI infrastructure company is challenging the centralized dominance of big tech by enabling censorship-resistant, verifiably secure AI computation. Whether you're an AI researcher, a crypto developer, or a TAO token holder, Manifold is quickly becoming essential infrastructure.

What Is Manifold and What Does It Aim to Solve?

Manifold (also referred to as Manifold Labs) is creating a new AI infrastructure layer that breaks away from the centralized models used by Google, OpenAI, and others. Its goal: decentralize the training, deployment, and use of large language models (LLMs) by distributing power across a peer-to-peer network.

By using Bittensor's protocol, Manifold lets AI models collaborate, exchange information, and earn rewards—all without relying on a centralized intermediary.

What Are Manifold's Key Products and Technologies?

Targon: Manifold's flagship product, a decentralized inference engine, processes over 20 billion inference tokens daily. It provides access to AI services without relying on centralized servers, preserving privacy and promoting openness.

Sybil: A decentralized search engine that pulls results from distributed data sources, designed to withstand censorship.

Tao.xyz: An analytics platform and wallet interface for interacting with the Bittensor protocol and its TAO token.

All of these tools are designed to function within Bittensor's decentralized AI economy, where nodes (validators and miners) are rewarded in TAO for useful contributions.

How Is Manifold Funded and Who Backs It?

In July 2025. Manifold closed a $10.5 million Series A led by OSS Capital, with backing from Web3 and tech heavyweights including:

Digital Currency Group

Tobias Lütke (Shopify CEO)

Ram Shriram

Jacob Steeves (Bittensor Co-founder)

This funding will accelerate the development of its AI cloud services and reinforce its role in the Bittensor network's growth.

What Makes Manifold Different From Traditional AI Platforms?

Decentralization: No central servers, no gatekeepers—anyone can contribute compute or deploy models.

Privacy-First: Enables inference over private data without exposing that data to centralized entities.

Open Participation: Developers, researchers, and independent node operators can participate and earn rewards in TAO.

Alignment With Bittensor: Deep integration with the TAO ecosystem makes Manifold a key pillar in Web3 AI.

What About the Other 'Manifold AI'?

There is also a separate company called Manifold AI that focuses on clinical research in life sciences. It builds enterprise software for biomedical data analytics. While it shares the name, it is unrelated to the decentralized Manifold Labs infrastructure working on Bittensor.

Conclusion:

Manifold is more than just a contributor to Bittensor—it's helping to define what a decentralized AI future looks like. With Targon's scale, major investor backing, and a mission grounded in privacy and openness, Manifold is poised to become a foundational layer for Web3 AI. If you believe in the decentralization of intelligence itself, this is one project you'll want to watch closely.
