The ordinal BTC protocol, in its unique design, enables the recording of digital content such as artwork directly onto the Bitcoin blockchain. Today's focus is going to be on Ordinal BTC.

What Is Ordinal BTC?

The concept of ordinals theory forms the foundation for Bitcoin ordinals, which empowers satoshis (sats) to be treated as invisible units on the Bitcoin blockchain. In its essence, ordinals theory provides a numbering system for sats, enabling their distinct identification and independent trading on the Bitcoin network. With each satoshi having a unique ordinal number assigned based on the order of mining, this theory establishes the mechanics behind Bitcoin's ordinal framework. It should be noted that there are 100 million sats in one Bitcoin (BTC).

Sats, functioning as transactional units, have the capability to store digital content that comprises Bitcoin ordinals, resulting in immutable digital collectibles that can be exchanged using Bitcoin wallets. According to ordinal theory, sats can be associated with sec urity tokens, accounts, or stablecoins using ordinal numbers as stable identifiers.

Despite the versatility of ordinals to support various use cases, Rodarmor prefers not to equate Bitcoin ordinals with NFTs. When a sat, adorned or inscribed with a JPEG, is numbered using ordinals, it can be referred to as a nonfungible token on the Bitcoin blockchain in However, ordinals encompass much more than solely nonfungible tokens, even though their application as NFTs has found market acceptance on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Who Invented Ordinals Bitcoin?

In January 2023, Casey Rodarmor introduced the Bitcoin ordinals protocol, which enables the inclusion of digital content such as artwork on the Bitcoin blockchain. Diverging from the approach of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on platforms like Ethereum, Rodarmor aimed to establish an unalterable on- chain representation of various forms of creative expression, including art, text, and videos. The genesis ordinal, marking the first instance of this protocol, involved a pixel art depiction of a skull inscribed by Rodarmor on December 14, 2022.

Observing the exponential growth of the NFT market built upon Ethereum's ERC-721 standard in 2021, Rodarmor, who possessed programming and artistic skills, recognized an opportunity to create a distinct yet comparable experience on the Bitcoin blockchain. Pursuit of this vision, he developed Bitcoin ordinals based on ordinal theory and dedicated his efforts throughout 2022 to implement this innovative solution.

Summary

The ordinal BTC represents a significant innovation that can showcase diverse and exclusive applications specific to the Bitcoin blockchain, consequently motivating developers to engage actively and craft the necessary tools required by users.
