Percentage is a mathematical way of expressing a part of a whole as a fraction of 100. It is written as a symbol (%) after the number. For example, 50% is equal to 50/100, which is also equal to 0.5.

Percentage can be used to calculate many different things, including investment returns, cryptocurrency gains and losses, and sales tax.

Let's take a closer look at this article for a better understanding.

How to Calculate Percentage in Investment

To calculate the percentage return on an investment, you can use the following formula:

Percentage return = (Current value of investment - Cost of investment) / Cost of investment * 100

For example, if you buy $100 worth of Bitcoin and it later increases in value to $200, your percentage return would be:

(200 - 100) / 100 * 100 = 100%

This means that your investment has doubled in value.

How to Calculate Percentage in Cryptocurrency

To calculate the percentage gain or loss on a cryptocurrency investment, you can use the following formula:

Percentage gain/loss = (Current price per unit - Purchase price per unit) / Purchase price per unit * 100

For example, if you buy 1 Bitcoin for $500 and it later increases in value to $1,000, your percentage gain would be:

(1000 - 500) / 500 * 100 = 100%

This means that your cryptocurrency investment has doubled in value.

If the price of Bitcoin had decreased to $250 instead, your percentage loss would be:

(250 - 500) / 500 * 100 = -50%

This means that your cryptocurrency investment has lost half of its value.

Examples of Calculating Percentage in Investment and Cryptocurrency

Here are a few more examples of how to calculate percentage in investment and cryptocurrency:

Investment Example:

You invest $1,000 in a stock and it later increases in value to $1,500. Your percentage return is 50%.

You invest $5,000 in a mutual fund and it later decreases in value to $4,000. Your percentage loss is 20%.

Cryptocurrency Example:

You buy 1 Ethereum for $300 and it later increases in value to $600. Your percentage gain is 100%.

You buy 1 Dogecoin for $0.05 and it later decreases in value to $0.025. Your percentage loss is 50%.

Conclusion

Calculating percentage is a simple but important skill for investors and cryptocurrency traders to have. By understanding how to calculate percentage, you can make better investment decisions and track your progress over time.
