On October 5th, 2022, the Ethereum Foundation decommissioned the Rinkeby testnet. Alchemy's Rinkeby tap was retired on October 5th, 2022. Today's focus is on the Rinkeby ChainID, and how to add Rinkeby to MetaMask easily.

What Is Rinkeby ChainID?

Before releasing decentralized applications to the Ethereum mainnet, developers evaluate them on the Rinkeby testnet, an Ethereum testnet. The network, which is a fork of the Ethereum mainnet, is controlled by pre-approved nodes, reducing spam attacks and boosting efficiency.

Using a Rinkeby Faucet, developers can obtain free testnet ETH and test their smart contracts without having to worry about losing real money. The money has no value because it is a testnet. Only requests can be made for ETH on the Rinkeby testnet. Other nodes cannot receive mining benefits because authorized nodes can only add new blocks. The Rinkeby ChainID is 4.

How To Add Rinkeby To MetaMask?

A program named ChainList makes it simple to add the Rinkeby Testnet to your MetaMask Wallet or alternative Web3 wallet. The ChainList app enables users to quickly join by searching for any Web3 network.

To proceed, simply perform a Chainlist search for "Rinkeby," locate the box, and click the "Connect Wallet" button. When you do this, the Rinkeby Testnet will be immediately connected to your wallet.

Why Do Developers Use Rinkeby?

Because Rinkeby is more centralized than PoW testnets like Ropsten, which are open to spamming, many developers favor it. Comparing PoW to PoA, security is improved generally.

Additionally, developers favor Rinkeby's testnet over others because of its quicker block time. The block period for Ropsten is approximately 30 seconds, but Rinkeby reduces it by half.

For Rinkeby, the chain data amount is only around 6GB. As a result, compared to other testnets, Rinkeby wouldn't require much data size if you wished to run an Ethereum node.

In general, Rinkeby is renowned for being quicker and more dependable than other testnets.

Closing Thoughts

Now you know the Rinkeby ChainID. In conclusion, adding the Rinkeby Testnet to your MetaMask Wallet is a simple and secure procedure with the added benefit of ChainList.
