Developers use testnets to ensure that the smart contracts and dApps (decentralized applications) they deploy are functional and secure. What is Testnet and whether Testnet crypto is real or not? If you do not know yet, let’s find out by reading the article below.

Beginner Guide: What is Testnet?

A testnet is a test blockchain network that behaves and performs like the mainnet (mainnet) associated with it. Since they run on a different ledger than the mainnet, coins on the testnet have no connection to transactions and value on the mainnet. This allows developers to freely deploy, test and execute their projects on a functioning blockchain.

The cost of failure or error on mainnet is very high and sometimes irreversible, so developers need an environment in which they can work comfortably without these risks. Security is a top priority for developers working on any decentralized platform. Running on the testnet also provides the benefit of investigating any vulnerabilities in the platform and educating developers on how the platform works. For testnets used for pre-network upgrades, it is important to investigate how the newly developed changes will play out before being merged with the mainnet.

Is testnet crypto real?

The testnet wallet does not involve virtual currency, nor does it turn the testnet wallet into a cryptocurrency with monetary value.

Additionally, all Bitcoin testnet addresses start with m or n. Bitcoin livenet addresses all start with 1, 3 or bc1, and bitcoin cash addresses start with bitcoincash: and p or q. Bitcoin Cash testnet addresses start with bchtest: Unable to redirect testnet to livenet bitcoin address, and unable to send livenet coins to testnet address.

How do I avoid testnet scams?

Buying Bitcoin from another person is a common way to enter the world of cryptocurrencies. We encourage our clients to be very careful and conduct such transactions with people they absolutely trust. However, knowing who you are buying cryptocurrency is not always feasible.

If you want to buy cryptocurrencies, we recommend that you look for a cryptocurrency exchange you trust. Such as Coinbase,BitKan,Binance.

To avoid scams with testnet wallets, please follow the advice below:

- If you are buying cryptocurrency, please make sure that the wallet you want to receive funds is not a testnet wallet.

- If you're buying cryptocurrencies, watch out for "too good to be true" pricing or someone offering cryptocurrencies at a much lower price than the current market price.

- Don't let other people create wallets for you. They may want to create a testnet wallet and then send you testnet coins with no monetary value. They can also create a multi-signature wallet and send funds to another wallet that you have no control over.

Hopefully, this article will help you to understand What is Testnet and whether testnet crypto is real or not. Leveraging testnets is a critical step in developing applications on any blockchain network, and to ensure the development of Web 3, developers and users need to have confidence in the smart contracts and applications they use.
