This article is about what is the current age of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. Sam Bankman-Fried, or SBF, is a former crypto billionaire who is currently facing multiple criminal charges for fraud, money laundering, and bribery.

What is the Current Age of FTX Founder Sam Bankman-Fried?

Bankman-Fried was born on March 5. 1992. which makes him 31 years old as of November 2023.

Bankman-Fried was the founder and CEO of FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange that became one of the largest in the world with billions in deposits. He was celebrated as "a kind of poster boy for crypto"  and ranked the 41st-richest American in the Forbes 400 2022.

However, his success was built on deception and manipulation. In November 2022. when evidence of potential fraud began to surface, there was a rush by depositors to withdraw funds from FTX, forcing the company into bankruptcy. On December 12. 2022. Bankman-Fried was arrested in the Bahamas and extradited to the United States where he was indicted on seven criminal charges including wire fraud, commodities fraud, securities fraud, money laundering, and campaign finance law violations.

In United States v. Bankman-Fried, on November 2. 2023. he was convicted of fraud and conspiracy on all seven counts.  His sentencing, where experts say he likely faces decades in prison,   is scheduled for March 28. 2024.  A second trial—for five additional charges, including bank fraud and bribery—is scheduled for early March 2024.

The Rise and Fall of a Crypto Mogul

Bankman-Fried's downfall is a cautionary tale of ambition gone astray. He was the son of two Stanford law professors and graduated from MIT with a degree in physics. He started his career as a trader at a quant firm before pivoting to crypto trading in late 2017. He launched FTX in 2019 and grew it into one of the leading exchanges for buying and selling crypto derivatives. He also founded Alameda Research, a trading firm that specialized in arbitrage and market making in the crypto space. He poured hundreds of millions into mainstream marketing, including the naming rights to leading esports league TSM and the Miami Heat's arena. He was also a major donor to Democratic causes in the 2022 midterm election, giving nearly $40 million.

But behind the scenes, Bankman-Fried was engaged in a series of fraudulent schemes that defrauded investors, regulators, and the public. He manipulated the prices of crypto assets on FTX and other platforms using fake trades and bots. He used FTX's funds to prop up his own investments and to bribe officials in various countries to obtain favorable licenses and regulations. He also siphoned off millions from FTX's customers to fund his lavish lifestyle and his political donations. He lied to auditors, journalists, and authorities about his activities and his net worth. He even tried to tamper with multiple witnesses after he was released on bail, which led to his re-arrest in August 2023.

Bankman-Fried's case is one of the most infamous financial scandals in history. It exposes the dark side of the crypto industry and the risks of unregulated innovation. It also raises questions about the ethics and accountability of crypto entrepreneurs and investors.
