On May 11, 2020, Bitcoin will be halved at block 630,000. At the time of the Bitcoin halving, the block reward will be cut in half, reducing income for all Bitcoin mining operations (large and small). So, we will talk about the next Bitcoin halving, and so on.

What Is Bitcoin Halving Countdown?

The prize for mining bitcoins is reduced by half during the Bitcoin halving. It happens every four years to divide in half.

In order to combat inflation by keeping scarcity, the halving policy was incorporated into the Bitcoin mining algorithm. Theoretically, if demand stays the same despite the slower rate of Bitcoin production, the price will rise.

According to David Weisberger, CEO of trading site CoinRoutes, Bitcoin currently has an inflation rate of less than 2%, which will drop with further halvings. Comparing that to the June consumer price index's annualized inflation rate of 9.1%, things are looking fairly good .(CPI).

According to Chris Kline, chief operating officer of Bitcoin IRA, "Bitcoin's production scarcity is what determines its finiteness, and when reward goes down, supply is constrained. "An increase in demand at a time of limited supply has a positive impact on price, which can make bitcoin appealing to investors."

When Is Bitcoin Halving Countdown?

The following Bitcoin halving countdown is slated for block 840,000 in 2024.

The Bitcoin block incentive will decrease from 6.25 Bitcoin per block to 3.125 Bitcoin per block on April 19, 2024 at 2:47:12 PM UTC.

In November 2012, the first Bitcoin split took place. Every time there is a fresh halving, the amount is reduced by half. For instance, the prize for mining Bitcoin decreased to 25 BTC per block following the first halving.

In 2140, the final half will take place. There will be 21 million Bitcoin in existence at that time, and no new coins will be produced. Miners will then only receive transaction fees going forward.

Summary

According to the Bitcoin protocol, Bitcoin halving countdown must occur after a specific number of blocks are generated. Although no one can predict with certainty when the next halving will take place, analysts predict that it will happen in May 2024.
